Brides usually wear red if you do not want to look like a bride, you avoid the use of red. Maybe you can ask your friend, (who married) to one day come and help you put the sari, it will go easier for you to the wedding day. Or you can bring another friend, and they can help you to put on the sari. They are really very difficult to collect. I had a couple of saris in my life and still have problems with it! In the jewels of the Indian culture is a big deal, you can also opt for a set of bracelets, earrings and a necklace too. I do not think color is really a problem, they look great in all colors. I guess you have to choose another to your skin tone and feel comfortable. It's very nice of you want to carry the culture of his friend. Hope this helps and have fun. I also wear saris.
